Frequently Asked Questions

Are you an independent recruiter that presents candidates to potential employers?

No, recruiters either work directly for the employer or are paid a fee as a contingency recruiter if the candidate they submit gets hired. I represent the candidate and help them ID and approach organizations to find and land the job they want. This includes resume preparation, optimizing their LinkedIn profile, networking and interview prep with role playing to build confidence.

What is the primary benefit you provide as a Career Coach or Counselor?

For most job seekers, but especially those that are out of work and feeling stuck, I provide objective feedback and help them build their personal brand (and their confidence) and together we establish a job search strategy with action items and timelines. Having someone in your corner during this often challenging and lonely process can be quite helpful.

Why do you call yourself a Job Search Sherpa?

The term Sherpa is often used to refer to almost any guide or climbing supporter hired for mountaineering in the Himalayas. Because of this usage, the term has become a slang byword for a guide or mentor in other situations. In essence I guide clients to the peak of their career and job goals.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. At this point in my career earning money is not my primary objective; helping others is. That’s why I do a fair amount of pro bono work as well as offer payment plans suited to those that are unemployed and concerned about cash flow. I can relate; having been in that situation I know full well the stress it creates.

Why do you suggest role playing interviews?

Many people aren't comfortable selling the most important product: themselves. Clients have told me they interviewed with confidence but stumbled when a question they really wanted to avoid was posed. It could be a gap in employment or a relatively short stint at one company. It would throw them off their game and some felt  it caused the interviewer to select another candidate. Even the best Broadway actors rehearse, a lot! It takes practice to be prepared to handle with confidence some of the interview questions one will get. This is especially true for the questions you most want to avoid. Mock interviews allow you to rehearse until you can answer difficult questions succinctly and with complete confidence.

What are the most common comments your clients make after working with you?

I hate to brag, but here are some direct quotes:

“Frank coached me up and gave me the confidence I needed to nail the interview.”

“He had a tried and tested process that helped me focus my search and he was always available for advice, feedback, mock interviews, and serving as a sounding board.”

“Frank was an amazing asset to have in my corner during a round of competitive interviews for a management position that I ended up landing.”

“He tells it like it is and his perspective as a former business executive having tons of experience interviewing was very valuable.”

“Two things set Frank apart as a career coach: His genuine passion for mentoring and the satisfaction from helping others succeed.”

“I was rudderless and Frank helped me understand what I was truly looking for in the next chapter of my career.”

“More than just refining my resume or interview skills, he helped me see and articulate my unique value with confidence.”
